Isoloc Joint Templates Overview video

Create Up to Four Unique Joint Styles

By replacing the dovetail finger assembly with an Isoloc template, you are ready to produce some very creative joinery. Two 24" Isoloc templates fit the Super24 Jig and one 18" Isoloc template fits the Super18 Jig. The I24A and I24B Templates feature four joint patterns, and the I18B Template features two joint patterns. A single 5/16" or 8mm straight bit, preferably an spiral upcut bit, does all the routing.

Isoloc Templates are designed primarily for half-blind joints, though several of the patterns can be set up to produce through and end-on-end joints. Inlaid and Shadow Inlaid joints give an even more intriguing look to the beautiful organic shapes of Isoloc joints.

Quick Template Setup

It takes less than a minute to replace the dovetail finger assembly on your Leigh Dovetail Jig with one of three Isoloc templates, and you’re ready to produce some very creative joinery. In fact, Isoloc joints are as easy to rout as finger/box joints and even easier than dovetails. Each template has two joint patterns. A single 5/16" or 8mm straight bit, preferably an upcut spiral, does all the routing.

Router requirements

What Router Should I Use?

Leigh recommends a midsize router, from 1-1/2 to 2-1/4 HP (9-13 amps) with a 1/2" collet. This size provides great power to weight ratio. Fixed base routers are ideal because they have a lower center of gravity with handles mounted to the router base rather than the motor, as with plunge routers. However, if you are proficient with the use of a plunge router, it works just as well. Learn more >

Guide Bushing Adaptors for your Router

All 3 templates need a router fitted with a Leigh guide bushing. Because the router industry isn't standardized, you may need an adaptor to fit the guide bushing to your router. Learn more >

Router Collets

Routing with Isoloc Templates requires a router with a 1/2" collet, and smaller bits require the use of collet reducer. Learn More >
