Box Joints with the B975 — Router Table Use

Box joints are a quick and effective method of making drawer boxes, cabinetry and storage boxes. The visually striking symmetrical design of box joints is a great alternative to traditional dovetail joinery. With the B975 you can rout 1/2" and 3/4" box joints on your router table. The following steps show how to rout a 3/4" joint. Note: Handles must be added to the jig.
1 Use the supplied Leigh e10 guide bushing (eBush) installed in your router table and the included 1/2" straight bit. Two other optional bits are also available.
2 With the jig upside down and the side stop fully retracted, center the socket board as shown, allowing equal amounts of overhang on each side of the board.
3 Clamp the socket board in place. Slide the socket board stop over so it touches the edge of the board, and lock in place.
4 Rout into all template openings and remove the socket board.
5 Flip the pin board stop to the pin board position. This provides the correct offset for pin boards. Clamp the pin board in place against the stop.
6 Rout into all template openings.
7 Join the boards together to test the joint fit. Adjust your fit with the e10 elliptical guide bushing as shown in 'A Perfect Fit' below.
Adjusting the joint fit is straightforward. Rotate the guide bushing by one increment to adjust the joint fit by an incredible 0.002"(0.05mm)
